In tonight’s edition: At least 18 people have been killed in an attack at a restaurant in Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. And in Sierra Leone, hundreds have died in mudslides and flooding. Finally, Kenya’s reelected leader urges peace as the country resumes normal life after the presidential election.
Suspected Islamist militants have killed at least 18 people in a raid on a restaurant in Burkina Faso’s capital, Ouagadougou. The attack comes a little over a year since a similar attack left several people dead at a cafe just 200 metres away from Sunday’s target.
And in flood-hit Sierra Leone, hundreds of people have been killed and more than 2,000 left homeless in Freetown.
Finally, Kenya’s leader Uhuru Kenyatta has called for peace after winning last week’s presidential election. Opposition leader Raila Odinga, however, insists his loss was due to fraud and has called on Kenyans to stage home protests. But many Kenyans now seem keen to put the political tensions behind them.
